[BREAKING] Trailer of "The Butler" Released!

What is that we hear? Why, it's the sound of a million Oscars, judging by the credit list sequence at the end of the new trailer for the upcoming drama "The Butler". (Trailer Below)



The cast list, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr. Robin Williams, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, John Cusack, the list goes on, is definitely the reason for those sounds of a million Oscars that we hear, but whether the film will be as successful in that department as it's stellar casting, is another issue.

The film which follows the career of a White House butler (Whitaker) as he serves through eight Presidencies over 34 years is released August 16th in the US.

Is this another "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"? A film that, although a good one,  has been solely designed and manufactured in such a way that it is sure for success during awards season? Or is it simply such a powerful and amazing script, that the worlds most incredible actors have leapt in for a piece of such a wonderful project.

Only time will tell, we enjoyed the trailer and look forward to reviewing "The Butler" in the near future.

Mrs. Doubtfire 2?

[UPDATE] Rest in Peace, Robin.

According to director Chris Columbus, there is currently a lot of talk flying around over at 20th Century Fox, concerning a sequel to one of the most successful comedies of the 1990's. During an interview with  "Huff Post Live", the Harry Potter and Home Alone director let slip on a few details about the long on/off sequel. 

To paraphrase, Columbus says "We're talking about a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire, We've talked about it with Robin Williams, and the studio is interested in it. The thing that fascinates me about a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire is with most actors who create an iconic character like Mrs. Doubtfire, when you come back and do that character, well, you're twenty years older so, you're not going to look the same. The cool thing with Mrs. Doubtfire is there's a character, there's a woman, who is actually going to look exactly as she did in 1995. So I look forward to seeing that trailer. I love that concept and there's no CGI. So we just need to make absolutely certain that the story is a good emotionally strong story, that there's a reason for telling it, it's not like Big Momma's House or something. It has to be as emotional and as funny." (See interview clip below)



Not much has been mentioned about the sequel since Robin Williams & Co rejected the attempts of Bonnie Hunt whom wrote a screenplay involving the character (Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire) moving onto a college campus to keep an eye on his/her daughter. 
Williams who is set to return to the small screen in the upcoming comedy series "The Crazy Ones" opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar, has frequently said that if it's not going to be done right, it shouldn't be done at all and, reading Columbus' quote, the inclusion of the word "Emotional" and the phrase "It's not like Big Momma's House" are certainly strong signs that the crew may be putting in some actual effort into making a sequel that isn't merely tired old jokes that will make a little money, although I'm sure the dollar signs are an added incentive.

This is in very early stages and the long awaited Mrs. Doubtfire sequel has been left on the cutting room floor many times before. Who knows? Maybe they'll do a good job, however, one can't quite help but think that the 1995 classic, departed with an utterly perfect ending.
